This is our vision of doing something sustainable.
The lamp is made out of mushroom mycelium.
A mycelium is a network of fungal threads, the part of the mushroom that is full of life.
Our lamp is made by mushroom mycelium using a mycelium and substrate (AGRICURTURAL WASTE) simply by molding it and letting it grow. As the mycelium grows the connection between tiny pieces of wood and straw are made.
After few days or weeks depending on temperature and moisture the growing process is done. At this point the material is structurally connected but still moist and fragile so we are carefully letting it dry. By drying the structural strength is becoming stronger. After this step we are baking the lampfor 5 h as the process of baking extracts moisture from the material and neutralizes the mycelium so it would not grow any further.
Maybe you are confused or intrigued by the text above so lets talk about some properties of the material.
Mycelium materials are completely biocompostable andmade out of agricultural waste. The only possible byproduct made by processing mycelium materials are mushroom and they are edible.
As we are letting mycelium cover the surface of its shape the products are becoming hydrophobic and have fire retardant properties.
The closest it gets in comparison is like a cork.
